Challenge Cup History
Challenge Cup is the annual non-qualifying competition held at PSC&HS since 1982. As the first Chair, Marie Pearce—a National level judge with widespread connections—spearheaded the initial success and created the solid foundation for this highly regarded event. Challenge Cup provides skaters the opportunity to compete just before the beginning of U.S. Figure Skating’s qualifying competition season. At Challenge Cup, we are fortunate to have National, International, World and Olympic officials judge skaters from No Test to the Senior level. We offer events in all four disciplines, including adult competition. Most events are judged using the IJS system so that skaters receive helpful feedback before competing at their respective regional competitions. Skaters come from across the country to participate and enjoy the competitive spirit and atmosphere of our beautiful facility. In addition to personal medals, each year the Challenge Cup is presented to the U.S. Figure Skating Club which receives the most points from their respective club members finishing first through fourth place in events. The Robert Horen Dance Trophy is awarded to the winners of the Junior Free Dance event.
